Restorative Dentistry
The focus of restorative dentistry is to repair or replace damaged and missing teeth. Restorative dentistry returns your chewing force, improves your ability to enjoy food, improves your speaking ability, and provides you with a more attractive smile. The benefits far outweigh any temporary discomfort you may experience in the dental chair.
Common Restorative Dentistry Procedures
The specific procedure our dentists recommend depends on the oral health issue when you present with at Orn Family Dentistry. Below are brief descriptions of the four most common procedures our dentists perform to improve the long-term oral health of our patients.
Bridge
A dental bridge replaces one or more of your natural teeth lost to dental disease or trauma. Our dentist attaches the artificial teeth to a bracket or crown and then affixes the bracket or crown to the teeth on either side of those that are missing. The nearby teeth must be strong enough to withstand the pressure of the dental bridge for this option to work for you.
Crown
If you have a chipped, cracked, or badly decayed back tooth, placing a dental crown on top of it helps to save the tooth from extraction. Our dentist needs to remove a portion of the tooth to ensure that the crown will fit securely. You may also receive a dental crown after a root canal to prevent further infection.
Implant
Dental implants replace some or all of your natural teeth. Many patients prefer this option because implants look, feel, and function just as their natural teeth do. When you receive an implant, a dentist first installs a titanium ‘root’ in your jaw to replace your missing tooth(teeth). Several weeks later, you return to our dental practice to have the abutment and artificial crown/bridge attached. Abutment is the name of the piece that holds the artificial crown and root together.
